More than four years have passed since the tragic helicopter crash accident that took the lives of Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gigi, and other passengers. But the LA Lakers legend continues to be imprinted in the minds of many NBA players, former players, and upcoming players.
Plenty of active NBA players looked up to Bryant before making it to the league, including Brooklyn Nets guard Cam Thomas. The 22-year-old recently spoke about the Lakers legend and brought up Chicago Bulls icon Michael Jordan in the process.
“He’s like our generation’s Jordan,” Thomas told ESPN of Bryant. “How the other guys liked Jordan, that’s how we are with Kobe. I sometimes glance up there when I’m sitting down on the bench,” Thomas said of Bryant’s numbers that are honored at Crypto.com Arena. “Seeing that he has two jerseys retired, it’s always surreal to be in the arena and play there.”
Thomas isn't the only NBA player that has recently talked about Kobe Bryant, as many have been vocal about the Lakers legend, a lot having to do with the upcoming unveiling of his statue outside the Crypto.com Arena this Thursday where the purple and gold will be clashing against the NBA reigning champions the Denver Nuggets.
For the contest against the Nuggets, the Lakers will be bringing back their fan-favorite uniform the "Black Mamba Edition" in honor of the black mamba and his statue unveiling. The jersey has been requested by the fans to be back for a long time, their wish has finally been fulfilled.
