At 39 years old, in his year 21 in the league, LeBron James continues to be the face of the NBA, inside the top ten of best players and giving some amazing performances that keep impressing the basketball world and beyond.
But many fans, and media have been wondering, who will be the new face of the league once LeBron James retires. While the Lakers superstar continues to defy Father Time, his time to step off the court will eventually come, and that moment keeps getting closer and closer.
LeBron James knows it and recently at the NBA All-Star spoke about his future, revealing that he wants to retire as a purple and gold if everything works out like it should, that he is 50/50 on having a farewell tour, and that he isn't sure when he will be retiring from the court.
Now that LeBron's retirement approaches, ESPN's JJ Redick spoke on who he sees as the new face of the NBA after the Lakers superstar who is arguably considered to be one of the greatest players of all time. "In terms of American players, I think it's Tyrese Haliburton ... Jayson Tatum ... Anthony Edwards. It could be someone else. But there has to be I think the embrace of being a face of the league."
"I was asked this question a couple days ago," James said. "'Will you kind of take the farewell tour, or will you kind of just Tim Duncan it?' "I'm 50-50, I'm going to be honest, because there's times when I feel like I guess I owe it to my fans that have been along this journey with me for two decades plus, to be able to give them that moment where it's every city and whatever the case may be and they give you your flowers or whatever the case may be. That seems cool. I don't know how it's going to end, but it's coming," James said. "It's coming, for sure."
