2023 playoffs Lakers

The Athletic's NBA insider Shams Charania has revealed that the NBA has suspended last season's now-former Lakers center Tristan Thompson for 25 games for violating the league's anti-drug program.

Thompson is now playing with the Cleveland Cavaliers, but the two-time LeBron James teammate tested positive for ibutamoren and SARM LGD-4033.

Tristan was one of the two players the Los Angeles Lakers signed exclusively to help them in the 2023 playoffs run. Thompson while didn't play much had a key role thanks to his experience in helping the team's centers with a mentor kind of role.

Thompson did have some participation in the WCF against the Denver Nuggets where sadly the team was swept and eliminated, ending this way their dream of winning the 2023 NBA championship title. Thompson walked away in the 2023 offseason as a free agent until he signed for a second stint with the Cavs.

The Lakers are looking to add a backup center

Since Tristan Thompson, Mo Bamba, and Wenyen Gabriel walked away as free agents, the team hasn't been able to find a good backup center, as Jaxson Hayes hasn't fit that well with LA, and Christian Wood has a more offensive role rather than the particular role the center should have on the defensive end.
