Lakers' latest singing Skylar Mays can become an underrated pickup that has been signed as a two-way deal after the team waived Alex Fudge and D'Moi Hodge. Mays is a point guard who has been playing in the NBA and even this season faced the Lakers with the Portland Trail-Blazers.
This signing is important because the Lakers only have D'Angelo Russell as their point guard, and he has been sent to the bench to come off it in games instead of being a starter. The other team's point guard is Gabe Vincent but he has been out for more than 30+ years.
Skylar Mays is an emergency point guard now that Vincent is out and will be until the middle of February, meanwhile, the team needs another playmaker and while isn't a star, Mays is a helpful player who isn't using the team's 15th spot as he signed a two-way deal.
The Lakers faced Mays earlier in the season when he was part of the Portland Trail-Balzers. On his matchup vs the Lakers this season, Skylar scored 15 PTS, 4 REB, 12 AST, and 1 TO with 7/13 FG.
Skylar Mays is a 26-year-old point guard who was part of the 2020 NBA Draft and selected by the Atlanta Hawks in the 2nd round, 50th overall pick. Since then, the has played in the G League and most recently was part of the Portland Trail Blazers. Mays is set to help in the point guard position while Gabe Vincent recovers or a move is made ahead of the February 8th trade deadline.
