The LA Lakers and Kyrie Irving have been linked for a long time, but should the team go for him in the offseason?

Before the NBA trade deadline, the Lakers were close to signing Kyrie Irving, but the Brooklyn Nets owner Jao Tsai didn't want to give Kyrie what he wanted and traded him to Dallas instead.

But rumors continue to have the Lakers looking to sign Kyrie Irving until a recent report has the team front office focusing instead on re-signing D'Angelo Russell and other players like Austin Reaves and  Rui Hachimura.

Now that the Mavericks could be out of the playoffs, Kyrie Irving is considering becoming a free agent to choose what team to play with, and the Lakers could then be interested in signing the PG.

It is known that LeBron James wants to play again alongside Irving after the two gave the Cleveland Cavaliers their first championship in franchise history.

Should the Lakers sign Kyrie Irving if he becomes a free agent?

While Irving remains a top NBA player, the reality is that D'Angelo Russell has been great with the Lakers, and he has become a vital part of the team alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis and costs way less than Irving. Also, Irving couldn't help a Dallas team with Luka Doncic.
