Davis will be earning 62 million per year, which is going to make him the highest-paid NBA star, but now the superstar Luka Doncic could be the player that 'steals' that title.

Luka Doncic is on pace to make NBA history by earning $70 million in a single season through a supermax extension, contingent on earning All-NBA honors in the 2023-24 season, with the contract potentially reaching $367.5 million.

Fans who were already surprised by Jaylen Brown's record-breaking five-year, potentially $304 million contract extension with the Boston Celtics this summer and then Anthony Davis three three-year $186 million deal might be even more shocked by what's coming in the next few years.

According to Bobby Marks of ESPN, Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic is on pace to become the first player in NBA history to rake in a staggering $70 million in a single season. The jaw-dropping figure hinges on Doncic earning All-NBA honors in the 2023-24 season, which would then make him eligible for a five-year supermax extension projected at $318 million.

It's worth noting that Doncic won't be able to ink this extension in 2024 due to his six years of service, but the criteria will have been met (All-NBA selections in two of the last three seasons), allowing him to sign it in 2025, taking effect from the 2026-27 season. Bobby Marks throws in the intriguing possibility that Doncic's extension could swell to $367.5 million if the salary cap experiences a maximum 10 percent annual increase over the next three years. In that case, the last year of the contract would balloon to $83.6 million.
