The current HBO "Winning Time," is running its second season and had his season finale tonight got the worst news, isn't getting renewed for a third season

The NBA offseason has felt long, but the Los Angeles Lakers fans have been able to satisfy some of their lack of the game by enjoying HBO's fictional series "Winning Time," a show based on the Showtime era Lakers that today saw the ending of it's second season and, sadly, now of the series.

Today it has been made official, unfortunately, the second season will be the last of the HBO's show as the production company has confirmed that it will not be renewed for a third season.

This doesn’t come as a huge surprise as people working on the show, including Jeff Pearlman, the author of the book the show is based on “Showtime,” have pleaded for fans to watch to avoid this happening. Unfortunately though, due to the ongoing writer’s strike, networks have had to cut costs and Winning Time is a casualty for HBO.

With season 2 ending with the 1984 NBA Finals when the Lakers were defeated by the Boston Celtics in seven games, the fans won't be able to see the Lakers come back to beat the Celtics in the 1985 and 1987 seasons to get their revenge.

What "Winning time," second season gave the Lakers fans

Some of the highlights of Season 2 include the rise of Pat Riley, played by Adrien Brody, to head coach and someone Dr. Jerry Buss, played by John C. Reilly could trust. It also showed Jeanie’s continued involvement, and the Lakers governor herself recently said that she liked how Hadley Robinson was portraying her. All of those dynamics would have continued to grow in future seasons.
