The Los Angeles Lakers have been lacking in the Point Guard department since the team won the 2020 championship title, as GM Rob Pelinka made several changes to that roster, to the point that only LeBron James and Anthony Davis remain from that campaign.

After the Russell Westbrook disaster that came to be, the purple and gold found their solution by bringing back his second stint with the team, D'Angelo Russell.

D-Lo immediately made a difference along with the other players that came to the team before the last season's trade deadline. But once the team made it to the playoffs and the regular season was over, Russell's performances drastically changed and were kind of disappointing and he didn't help the team to avoid being swept by the now NBA champions the Denver Nuggets.

Because of that, Pelinka has been looking for an upgrade to the Laker, but without a big market for the PG, the team decided to re-sign him and added him to the roster as a backup for the NBA Finalist Gabe Vincent.

The trade that could make the Lakers upgrade from D'Angelo Russell

It seems that Pelinka could finally find a trade that could get the team an upgrade from D-Lo with the team's most despised rival the Boston Celtics. James Piercey of NBA Analysis Network argues that Russell still isn’t the perfect fit alongside LeBron James. According to Piercey, swapping Russell with Malcolm Brogdon of the Boston Celtics would put them in a more ideal situation. D-Lo currently isn’t eligible to be dealt after signing an extension which means that LA will need to wait a bit before pulling the trigger on this proposed deal.
