After the Team USA disaster in 2019 where the group came short in the quarterfinals, the current FIBA World Cup was set to be a rematch with a cast of new young and talented players, but once again they fell short of the task.
In a very close game against Germany, the Americans weren't able to take the win, even when their best player, Anthony Edwards tried to lead the team by scoring a team-high 23 points.
Ant received help from the Lakers guard Austin Reaves who scored 21 points, Mikal Bridges with 17 points, and Jalen Brunson with 15 points. But it wasn't enough to recover from a double-digit deficit.
The former Lakers guard Dennis Schröder helped Germany to beat the United States with the final score of 113-111 and now will be facing Serbia in the Final while the USA will take on Canada for the bronze medal.
Germany, powered by NBA forwards Franz Wagner and Daniel Theis, beat the U.S. 113-111 in Manila to reach its first final at an Olympics or World (Sunday versus Serbia). It was Germany’s first win over the U.S. in their ninth meeting in the Dream Team era (since 1992). The U.S. has lost two games at a second consecutive World Cup. Four years ago, it placed seventh, the worst major tournament result in program history, then rebounded to win a fourth consecutive Olympic title in Tokyo. Now will pursue the bronze medal and bounce back again at the Olympics with a star-studded cast of players, probably even including LeBron James.
