Today is the birthday of the Los Angeles Lakers owner, Jeanie Buss, in celebrations, this is her story. Jerry Buss bought the Los Angeles Franchise in 1979, changing the basketball sport forever. After he passed away in 2013. Jeanie Buss took over as team president and Lakers representative on the NBA Board of Governors.

Jeanie Buss started young in the sports world after becoming, at the age of 19, the general manager of the strings of TeamTennis. She had later more experience in different sports but then went to the NBA to work in his father's franchise the Los Angeles Lakers.

Jeanie started escalating the family business. Sporting News in 2005 named Buss as one of the top 20 most influential Women in sports. In 2011, Forbes called Jeanie “One of  few powerful women in sports management,” and ESPN said she is “one of the most powerful women in the NBA.”

Jeanie has been successful as the Lakers owner; in 2020, she became the first female controlling owner to guide her team to an NBA Championship.

Successful in business rather than in her love life

Jeanie Buss, on different occasions, has stated that she prefers to focus on the business rather than on her personal love life. Still, Buss married volleyball player Steve Timmons in 1990 but divorced after three years. She posed nude in the May 1995 issue of Playboy. She was engaged to former Lakers coach Phil Jackson for four years, then broke up; she is dating comedian Jay Mohr.
