While the LA Lakers are busy actively looking to add another center to their roster, a former player that became a free agent this offseason is looking to find a new NBA team to play with for the next campaign, meanwhile has accepted to play for the South Sudan National team.
With the 2023 FIBA World Cup less than three weeks away, the South Sudan Basketball Federation has announced that free agent NBA forward-center Wenyen Gabriel will be joining the men's national team.
Gabriel was one of the backup centers for the Lakers in the last season and part of the team that made it to the WCF, still, Pelinka and Ham parted ways with him as he became a free agent.
This will be a good opportunity for Gabriel to show his game and get the attention of NBA teams that are still looking to add players to their roster. Wenyen could still comeback to the Lakers for the vet min.
It seems that the Lakers have offered the vet min to Wood and the big center is still waiting to see a new and better offer comes up before accepting. We'll have to wait to see what the front office does in the pursuit of a backup center for the team.
