The biggest NBA rival for the LA Lakers is the Boston Celtics, recently they signed one former purple and gold center, a free agent this summer that shined in the FIBA World Cup.

Wenyen Gabriel was one of the centers the Lakers let go this offseason, alongside Tristan Thompson and Mo Bamba. LA went another route by signing the big men Jaxson Hayes and Christian Wood instead.

Gabriel became a free agent and in an attempt to get a new NBA team he played in the FIBA World Cup where he shined, the Boston Celtics signed him for an exhibit ten, but now have waived him.

With information via the NBA Insider Shams Charania: "The Boston Celtics are waiving F/C Wenyen Gabriel, sources tell The Athletic, Stadium."

Former Laker Matt Ryan also has been waived

Charania also reported that Matt Ryan has been waived: "The Minnesota Timberwolves are waiving wing shooter Matt Ryan and signing Daishen Nix to a two-way NBA contract, per sources. Nix averaged 6 points and 3.3 assists in preseason. Ryan scored 18 points on 6 3‘s over final 2 games."
