After the season ended for the Lakers in the 2023 playoffs as they were swept in the WCF by the Denver Nuggets, GM Rob Pelinka and coach Darvin Ham decided to bring back the core of the team and had some upgrades.
One of the players that left the team, and was critical for the Lakers 'success' in the previous campaign was the point guard Dennis Schröder who also was one of coach Ham's favorite stars.
But it seems that Schröder has given a low blow to his now former head coach Darvin Ham, as the new world champion, the German PG has revealed the reason why he left LA and signed with the Toronto Raptors.
With information via ESPN, Schröder says he left the Lakers for the Raptors because of his connection with Darko Rajakovic, who is now the head coach of Toronto. "I Liked how he was coaching myself... I think it's a great fit." Also, signing for two years and 26 million wouldn't hurt the German PG as he made only two million with the Lakers in the last season.
Even when the PG says he was the one deciding to leave Los Angeles, the Lakers had signed Gabe Vincent and they already had covered the ball decision-maker role in the team with LeBron James, D'Angelo Russell, Austin Reaves, and now Vincent which is why they let Dennis to "walk" away to sign with another team.
