According to the coaching staff and the players, one of the main highlights coming from the first week of training camp was the skills, talent, and overall passion coming from the rookie Scotty Pippen Jr.

The expectations were high on him, and more after Anthony Davis praised and told how he handled the big 3 in one practice game alone. But he debuted on Monday night against the Sacramento Kings, and it wasn't what was expected.

More Lakers news:

Not only did Pippen Jr. fail to meet the high expectations, but he wasn't close to what he was promised, and being the son of the Chicago Bulls legend Scottie Pippen, he fell short of the promise and way far behind his dad's talent.

It is only the first preseason game, but he just showed that he isn't Lakers material, and with his two-way contract, his future could be in the G league instead of continuing in the NBA, at least for this season. He is talented but immature and needs to continue his development.

The rookie that proved his value in the preseason opener

The player that took his chance and showed some excellent skills and outside shooting talent was the young Cole Swider, who made some fantastic 3-point scores. Swider is beginning his first year and could be one of the helping hands in the outside shooting that the Lakers currently have.
