GM Rob Pelinka and coach Darvin Ham are still looking to add one more player to the team roster to fill 14 out of the 15th spots the team can have for the season.

The Lakers want to start the season with 14 players and leave one spot available if needed later in the campaign. They have 13 players and are looking to add one more center.

The problem is that the free agency market regarding size centers is becoming thin, as Pelinka and Ham want to sign a starter-leven big. Different players have been linked to the purple and gold, and a former Laker could return to LA.

It is not Dwight Howard or Tristan Thompson, the player Pelinka and Ham want back is Javale Mcgee. Mcgee was part of the 2020 championship roster.

The reason why the Lakers could not sign a center

There are two reasons why the Lakers could not sign a center this offseason. The first one is simple: the purple and gold have been lacking in the shooting department, and this offseason didn't address that problem, so a new signing could help. The other reason is that with Anthony Davis being the starting center and Jaxson Hayes being the 2nd unit big, LA could have their backup center, the currently rookie two-way contract Colin Castleton.
