By James Brown
The Denver Nuggets became the NBA champions for the first time in franchise history, but his head coach and players all seem to be talking about their victory over the Lakers.
This time, Bruce Brown, who is no longer part of the Nuggets since he became a free agent to then sign with the Indiana Pacers, has opened up about how it was to face the Lakers, and surprisingly, for him, that series was the easiest one of the playoffs for Denver.
In a recent interview, Bruce Brown said, "I would say our toughest series was—" Theo Pinson asked, "Lakers?" Brown then responded, "No. Minnesota." Pinson: "Why?" Brown: "It was just something about them. They had good players. Like it was Mike Conley, [Karl-Anthony Towns], [Anthony Edwards]... Phoenix, it was just blowouts each game." Pinson: "I thought all the Lakers games were close, though." Brown: "Yeah, but it never felt like we were gonna lose any game." Bruce Brown on the Nuggets' first-round series vs. the Timberwolves, whom they beat in 5 games.
For Brown, the Nuggets swept the Lakers and never felt to have a single game at risk, even when he also stated that for him and the rest of the Nuggets players, including Jokic, it was personal to defeat the purple and gold.
It seems that for the head coach Michael Malone and different Nuggets champions, the best thing they did in the postseason was to defeat the Lakers, as they talk more about that than winning the championship title for the first time in the history of the Denver Nuggets franchise.
