According to Lakers owner Jeanie Buss, they extend LeBron James because he gives them the best chance for a championship.

The Lakers haven't made any movements during this offseason. The only thing they can show is that they extended LeBron James for two more years. It makes sense, as he is the best player. However, right now, he needs help to take the team to the championship. Still, Lakers owner, Jeanie Buss, believes that LeBron James can take the team to win the title.

During an interview with GQ, Buss expressed that it is her job to help the team to contend, by signing players. "I look at my job as providing the resources needed to contend. And re-signing a player like LeBron James to an extension is giving us an opportunity to contend.”

Buss continued saying that when it comes to the Lakers, the expectation is to win every year. They have 17 titles for a reason. However, lately they have been underachieving, and that's why they need to bring players with talent, and that's the reason why they had to keep James in the team.

“With the Lakers comes the expectation of winning, and we obviously didn’t do that last season, so some changes have been made. Always, the Lakers want to contend for championships, which means you need a certain level of talent or resources for the coach to be able to put a team in a position to win. The expectation is for this team to win," concluded Buss.

The Lakers chance for a title

Right now, ESPN rankings have the team as the 17th best team in the league. That puts them around 8th or 9th in the West. That could be enough to get to the playoffs, but the question here is whether they can compete once they are in the postseason. With the roster they have right now, probably not.
