The Los Angeles Lakers suffered in the Point Guard position most of the season when Russell Westbrook was on the team, as he had a coming-off-the-bench role, and Dennis Schröder proved to be primarily a clutch player than a starter.
But after the trade deadline happened, Westbrook was gone, and in his place, Pelinka brought D'Angelo Russell, who immediately fit with the team and helped turn things around in the regular season.
The same can't be said of the playoffs, as he left much to be desired, and now Pelinka and Ham are looking to upgrade from him. According to NBA insider Jovan Buha, two potential stars could land in LA.
Buha reported that the Lakers have internally discussed the possibility of landing Trae Young or Damian Lillard. The main problem with both could be their market price, but the team will try to pursue them to upgrade from D-Lo, especially with their goal of winning the Championship title next year.
Russell was acquired in a trade last season, but it appears the Lakers may be reluctant to commit significant money to him this offseason. The team reportedly won't pursue a max extension with Russell, which could open the door for him to leave Los Angeles in free agency.
