Assistant coach Phil Handy, believes Kyrie Irving is the most skilled player in NBA history.

The Lakers are undoubtedly the front-runners to get Kyrie Irving via trade. Los Angeles have reportedly offered Russell Westbrook and two first round picks to the Brooklyn Nets. However, the Nets haven't answered and it seems that they are not going to trade their All-star players after all. Still, even if the trade does not happen, Lakers assistant coach Phil Handy decided to give the point guard a compliment not many players receive.

Kyrie Irving isn't the most popular player in the league. Last season the player was part of a lot, media coverage and not in the right way. He undoubtedly was a distraction for the team, as he decided not to get vaccinated against COVID, which didn't allow him to play in many home games. In the end, Irving only played in 29 games. His lack of playing time might be the reason why the Brooklyn Nets finished 7th in the East with a 44-38 record and ended up being swept by the Celtics in the first round of the playoffs.

Lakers want to break horrible streak on Opening Night games

During a podcast episode of ‘Certified Buckets’, Lakers assistant coach, Phil Handy, decided to give a very special comment. “I will go on record and say this,” Handy said. “He is probably the most skilled player to ever play. Offensively, probably the most skilled player to ever put on basketball shoes.” commented Handy. The assistant coach was part of the Lakers during Kobe's last years and now during LeBron James' tenure.

As if Lakers fans needed any more motivation to pray for a Kyrie Irving trade, here comes a Lakers coach and puts him above players like Jordan, Shaq, Magic, Kobe and even LeBron. Let's not forget that during the 29 games in which he has been available, he averaged 27.4 points, 5.8 assists and 4.4 rebounds. Pretty good numbers, but even in an injury-plagued season, LeBron surpassed his former teammate.

Is Kyrie Irving a must sign for the Lakers?

Right now, the Lakers might have an even worse team than last season. They added youth, but the veterans that the team let go helped the team to win their mediocre 33  games. The team will depend on LeBron and Davis' health, and in the last couple of years, he has seen that they get injured more and more. Russell Westbrook wasn't the solution, maybe Kyrie Irving won't be either.
