LeBron James and Anthony Davis are the two best players on the Lakers roster right now. The team goes as they go. However, as shown last season, they couldn't go as they were sidelined by a bunch of injuries during the season. The lack of game time from both players resulted in a 33-49 season as they missed the playoffs.
LeBron James was once known as an ‘Iron-man’ as he was never out of the game. Now, since he joined the Lakers, he has missed 71 games with 26 coming last year. Anthony Davis has always been injury-prone. In the last two campaigns, he has only played in 76 games. If these two players can't be on the court, the Lakers probably will miss the playoffs once again.
The biggest 'IF' for the Lakers in the upcoming season
The L.A Lakers and the L.A Clippers are the same right now
In an interview for The Athletic, Lakers owner, Jeanie Buss, explained that the two all-stars being hurt ended up affecting the Lakers. “You know, I would have loved to have seen what this team would have looked like if they stayed healthy. It's really tough to win when Anthony Davis isn't on the court. LeBron [James] was hurt a lot of the season.”
Unlike James and Davis, Russell Westbrook did remain healthy throughout the season. Despite not playing his best basketball, he received compliments from the Lakers owner. "The word I should have used was 'consistent.' He played 78 games last season," explained Buss.
When the Lakers won the Championship, they not only had one of the best rosters in the NBA, but their best players remained healthy throughout the season. Especially Anthony Davis and LeBron James. The two players can improve the team offensively and defensively.
