Lakers players express their opinion in new 'Classic' uniforms

Uniforms in the NBA tend to be the same or pretty similar year by year, but now the league allowed the teams to release a Classic Edition to honour their history in the sport. Los Angeles Lakers decided to released their 2022-23 Classic Edition jerseys paying homage to the Minneapolis Lakers era. The jerseys feature the MPLS ‘50s era blue and gold, which is the Lakers' first-ever home uniform in honor of our 75th season.

After the reveal a couple of Lakers players expressed their opinion towards the new 'Classic' uniforms. LeBron James and Anthony Davies were some of the players that approved the new uniforms. They both share an image via their Instagram account where both players are feature in a cartoon drawing alongside George Mikan wearing the Classic uniforms. LeBron simply added a 'AYYYYEEEE!" comment while tagging Davis on the post. Davis, meanwhile, complemented the post by adding a series of emojis with their head blown.

This uniforms were worn by the first ever Lakers superstar George Mikan. He led those Lakers to five championships in six seasons, cementing the Lakers as the premier franchise in the early days of the NBA. Mikan, who wore number 99 played 7 seasons for the Lakers. He averaged 23.1 points, 13.4 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 439 regular-season games. He was selected to play in 4 All-Star games, and won 5 NBA championships. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1959.

Other teams that also have unveiled their classic uniforms are the Golden State Warriors with their 1990-91 campaign when they had the highest-scoring trio in the league earned them the "Run TMC" nickname. Spurs, Bucks, Wizards, Pistons and Jazz are among other that ‘created’ a new uniform to honour their own history. But it's fair to say  that Lakers' uniform has the best history o all of them so far.

Since the beginning of 40's the Los Angeles Lakers have been at the top of the NBA. Many players have shown their true potential wearing the purple and gold jerseys. Now Lakers fans hope that with the extra motivation of wearing such an uniform full of history, the players in the roster can compete for a new championship and become the first team to reach 18 titles.
