Lakers set to air a TV special on Kobe Bryant Day

Kobe Bryant was one of the best players not only in Lakers history but also in NBA history. Orange County and the Los Angeles Lakers have been honouring the five-time champion on August 24th since 2020 after his tragic death. The date was set a day after the former MVP's birthday, and a result of the jerseys he wore as a Laker player, No.8 and No.24. Now this year, the Purple and Gold are set to release a TV special full of interviews taken throughout Bryant's career to remember the legend.

It's easy to remember Kobe for what he did on the court, but now the Lakers’ TV network announced it will air a compilation of interviews conducted throughout Bryant’s 20-year Lakers career to show what kind of person he was when he was not playing. The special “Backstage: Lakers – The Backstage Interviews: Kobe,” is set to last a half-hour, and will be released on Tuesday, August 23 at 8 p.m. Spectrum SportsNet will be airing a special program.

Kobe Bryant played 20 seasons for the Los Angeles Lakers. During his lengthy career, he averaged 25.0 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.7 assists in 1,346 regular-season games. He was selected to play in 18 All-Star games. He won 1 MVP award, 2 Finals MVP awards and 5 NBA championships. He was eventually inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2020. He was also a double gold medal winner with the US Basketball team in Beijing 2008 and London 2012.

The last competitive Lakers team

Some people might argue that the last real competitive team the Lakers had was in 2020 as they won the NBA Finals. And in some way that is true, but they also had a break as they played a shorter season inside a bubble. The truth is that the last Lakers team that dominated the league was led by Kobe and Gasol from 2009 to 2010, where they won back-to-back championships.
