The Lakers haven't won their first game of the season since the 2016-17 season.

The Lakers full schedule has been released and now we know when the Lakers are facing each of the rivals. Before the schedule was released, some leaks found their way to the media and we knew that the Purples and Golds were going to open the season against the defending champions Golden State Warriors. It's going to be a hard match-up, especially taking into account that the Lakers haven't won a game since 2016-17.

The last time the Lakers won an opening night game was six years ago, when Luke Walton was their head coach and D'Angelo Russell was their leader and team captain. The first game the team played was against the Houston Rockets, which they ended up winning by 120-114. Jordan Clarkson, another team captain, was the top scorer with 25. Still, after winning the first game, the team ended up with a 26-56 record and 14th in the Western Conference.

This is how the Los Angeles Lakers have squared on Christmas day games

Since the 2016-17 season, the Lakers have lost five opening games in a row. In the 2017-18 campaign, the team opened the season against the Los Angeles Clippers by a 108-92 score. In the 2018-19 season, LeBron James' first campaign, the team lost against Portland by a 128-119 score. The 2019-20 was the team's best season in the last twelve years. Now with Frank Vogel as the coach. Still, the team lost against the Clippers by a 112-102 score.

The last two seasons have also ended in defeats. In the 2020-21 season, the team were the defending champions. Still, the Clippers managed to win the Opening Night game -again- by a 116-109 score. Finally, last season, the Lakers opened their campaign against the Golden State Warriors. Steph Curry scored a triple double with 21 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists to defeat the Lakers. James and Davis finished with 34 and 33 points respectively.

Can the Lakers win their first Opening Night game in six years?

The Los Angeles Lakers won't an easy rival in their first game this season. Just as they did last year, they will start the campaign against the Golden state Warriors. However, this season the Warriors are the defending champions. The odds are against the Lakers, so it will be great to see how they respond.
