The Los Angeles Lakers are not only building a roster to compete for the next season's NBA championship title, but they also are setting the future of the franchise with some of the new young talent.

In this offseason, the team not only made great signings in the free agency market but also in the 2023 NBA Draft they got well use of their picks and even their eye to detect young talent in undrafted players like Colin Castleton and D'Moi Hodge.

Jalen Hood-Schifino, who was the Lakers' first pick and No. 17 overall, it's a talent to watch in the team's future, and the rookie center Colin Castleton believes the two of them could become a great duo.

“Yeah, 100 percent. He’s a great playmaking guard who can also score. I saw throughout the games, me and him were talking like just good dialogue. Where am I gonna be on a roll, where am I gonna be near the rim, where he should throw it up or low at certain times. So being able to just to talk and have communication with my point guard is always something that’s big for me being able to just connect with them so they understand like I’m always going to be an outlet for you. So if you get into trouble or something, know you can rely on me and I’ll give it right back to you to get in a good spot. So just having that good dialogue and connection, I feel like ours grew throughout Summer League and like I said going into the season’s going to get better.” Said Castleton.

The Lakers' next great duo

Castleton and Hood-Schifino have shown a lot of potential in the recent Summer League, but that's just the tip of the iceberg. Once they start working out with coach Ham and assistant coach Phil Handy gets his hands on them, they could develop into becoming the Lakers' next great duo after LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
