By James Brown
The Los Angeles Lakers superstar was already part of the GOAT debate, but after Tuesday's night game vs. the OKC Thunder, he has accomplished something that Michael Jordan could never do on his time.
Now that LeBron has passed Kareem's scoring record and made it his own, there is not much left for the Lakers superstar to prove, even when he still wants to win a couple of championships to tie MJ, as it is the only thing left for Bron detractors on accepting he is the new GOAT.
The two players are NBA legends now, even when at 38 years old, LeBron is still active. One of the main reasons he was able to break the scoring record is his longevity, as MJ retired a couple of times and didn't play as long as LeBron has been in the league as he is currently playing his year 20.
Another reason that didn't help Jordan to break the scoring record is that in his era, the game was different; this was before the 3-point revolution as Jordan only made 581 3-pointers in his career, while James has so far scored 4,968 more points from behind the arc than Jordan did. So now, for the vast majority, LeBron is the new GOAT.
Suppose LeBron can retire or at least win another championship title. In that case, he will be without question the NBA's GOAT, as he will be only one title away from Michael Jordan, as he has been dominating the league for 20 years and is looking as dominant as ever at 38 years old.
