The Los Angeles Lakers have one of the largest NBA fanbases out there, and the veteran referee Eric Lewis became the number one "public enemy" for the Lakers Nation after an infamous no-call in Boston last season.
Lewis was burned by the fans to be a Boston Celtics fan, and the NBA started an investigation after a supposedly burner Twitter account owned by the league referee.
Lewis is now retiring amid the league investigation into his social media activity. With this move, the investigation is now closed, the NBA said Wednesday in a two-sentence statement announcing both moves.
"NBA referee Eric Lewis has informed the league office that he is retiring, effective immediately," the NBA said. "In light of his decision, the NBA's investigation into social media activity has been closed."
Most Lakers fans who disliked Eric Lewis, especially after what happened between him and the team against Boston, are now celebrating online the retirement announcement.
