The Los Angeles Lakers were rumored to sign Kyrie Irving since the moment the team got eliminated from being swept by the now NBA champions, the Denver Nuggets.

This news evolved to the point where Irving was the one recruiting LeBron James to the Mavs, and the Lakers denied wanting to pursue the star PG, but now could've been revealed the real reason why all this happened.

Schröder opened up about an old beef he and the then-Nets star Kyrie Irving had in the 2020-21 season. According to Fox Sports Ric Bucher, "Schroder felt Irving was being unduly physically guarding him, and Irving appeared upset when Schroder complained to the referees," Ric Bucher wrote. "At one point, they stood nose to nose, and Schroder said, 'C'mon, n—-!'
"Irving shouted back, 'You can't say that! You're from Germany!'"

Schröder revealed, "My first six, seven years, I respected him so much because it didn't matter if he'd bust your ass with a 40-point game or had a quiet game, he was always the same guy," Schroder said. "Didn't talk s—. Then we had that incident in Brooklyn, which surprised me because it was out of nothing. I was shocked. I'm not going to lie. I asked LeBron, 'Why did he act like that?' LeBron said, 'I don't know, just let it go.'" All this beef could have had a role in Irving's decision to play in LA, even when Schröder admitted that Kyrie apologized to him.

Both players will become free agents this offseason

Even when Kyrie Irving and Dennis Schröder are set up to return with the Mavs and the Lakers, respectively, they will become free agents this summer and could change teams soon.
