The day has come for the Lakers legend Pau Gasol to join the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. Gasol is now joining his late former teammate Kobe Bryant in the Hall of Fame, as both helped the franchise to win two back-to-back championship titles.
But where exactly does Pau Gasol ranks in the history of the Lakers? The Purple and gold franchise has had some of the greatest players of all time, and many have joined the Hall of Fame, Gasol is the newest member.
Gasol is the number 30 Lakers player to become a Hall of Famer, but his legacy in the team goes beyond that as explained by the ESPN analyst Brian Windhorst.
For Windhorst, the Miami Heat built a team to stop the Lakers after the purple and gold won two back-to-back championships as Gasol injected new energy into Kobe's team after they had a rough period.
For the Lakers owner, Jeanie Buss is simple, without Gasol, the two championship won wouldn't have been possible, that's why he has now become a Hall of Famer and has seen his jersey number retired to the rafters.
