By James Brown
It seems like GM Rob Pelinka, owner Jeanie Buss and coach Darvin Ham are already planning for the future of the franchise, one that doesn't include LeBron James anymore.
This, because James retirement will be imminent, as he will end the next season with 39 years old, because of that, they have found his future replacement, and want to get him ready for the franchise once LeBron is no longer a Laker.
In the 2023 NBA Draft, Pelinka selected Maxwell Lewis at the No. 40 pick, and after signing, it seems the team has seen enough that have signed him a 4-year contract with the team.
According to information by NBA insider Khobi Price: "First two years are fully guaranteed with salaries around $1.1 million for 2023-24 and $1.4 million for 2024-25. Partially guaranteed ($100K) for 2025-26 and a team option for 2026-27."
Even when the first pick for the Lakers was Jalen Hood-Schifino, the Lakers are betting on Maxwell Lewis and also con the center Colin Castleton. The fans want the Laker to sign Castleton a standard contract for atleast 3 years.
