Russel Westbrook and Patrick Beverley ready to play together

The Lakers are getting ready to start training camp in a month with a team relatively better than the one that only won 33 wins and that missed the playoffs last year. The team traded for an all-NBA defensive player, Patrick Beverley, a few days ago. This looked like the end for Russell Westbrook in Los Angeles, but maybe the team will have to go along with both players on the roster.

Russell Westbrook and Patrick Beverley have had a beef for almost ten years now. It reached a boiling point last season as they had a Twitter fight. However, right now they are teammates and apparently the team is planning on paring the two enemies in different lineups, despite them playing the same position.

According to NBA insider Marc Stein, “Russell Westbrook and Patrick Beverley have already been in contact since becoming Lakers teammates, league sources tell me, and new coach Darvin Ham has told them he has lineups in mind to play Russ and PatBev side-by-side.”

The Lakers have tried to trade Russell Westbrook for months now. They offered him to the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for the all-star Kyrie Irving. That didn't happen, of course. Westbrook has also been offered to the Pacers and Jazz but nothing has gone through. It seems that they will have to go with the former MVP.

Lakers next move

The Lakers still need to upgrade their team. True, they have upgraded their defense. But Beverley is an injury-prone player. It's probable that at some point of the season James, Davis and Beverley will be out with an injury. The team has to trade for one or two players that can lead the team when the best players are out.
