Former Lakers Champion, Kyle Kuzma, said the '80's Lakers would be superior no matter what era they play in. Kuzma made an appearance on Warriors' center Draymond Green's podcast, The Draymond Green Show, and gave his views on comparing eras. Both Green and Kuzma both agreed that it is "dumb" to compare eras because of how the game has changed and evolved. However Kuzma also gave a lot of compliments towards the 80's Lakers
The Wizards' forward said, “I believe that the showtime Lakers they would f—–g dominate this era, I was watching Magic [Johnson] in the 80s, he’s highlights like earlier in the summer, people don’t realize he was fast as s–t. No, no, he was fast as hell. He was getting the rebound, [then] up the court in three dribbles. And that’s the NBA now. Right or wrong?” of course he might be somewhat biased as he was a champions for the Lakers.
The Los Angeles Lakers still need to surpass the Boston Celtics
Lakers players express their opinion in new 'Classic' uniforms
Kyle Kuzma also expressed some compliments for former Lakers President of Basketball Operations and Laker legend Magic Johnson. Lets not forget that Kuzma was acquired by the Johnson led front office after being drafted by the Nets, along with Brook Lopez, for D'Angelo Russell and Timofey Mozgov. He was part of the 2020 championship were he averaged 12.8 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 61 games.
Of course as both players said, it's impossible to compare teams in different eras, especially with 30 years apart. Still there's no denying that the 80 Lakers was full of superstars when they won five championships during a nine-year, the Hall of Famers Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, James Worthy for sure made the sport and the team grew in popularity nation and worldwide.
The 60's and 80's Lakers teams dominated the NBA for years, the 2000s had a great five year span, but now it seems that that dominance no longer exists. Sure, they managed to win the 2020 championship but they are no longer contenders and they are projected to miss the playoffs. However if they can land Kyrie Irving in a trade, a couple of championships can be heading towards Los Angeles.
