With ten games in the season, the LA Lakers have started better compared to the 2-8 record they had last year, as they currently are in the .500 with a 5-5 record, still, they have been far from the high expectations set by the offseason work done by GM Rob Pelinka and the hype created by the team itself after Training Camp.
These are the four biggest disappointments in the season so far. In the 4th place, Max Christie has been a disappointment, as there was hype for him to have a bigger role with the team this season, and being part of the team rotation, it hasn't happened as Cam Reddish has been tapped over Christie. Christie has yet to make a substantial impact outside of a couple of active defensive stints. He's scored 19 points across six appearances and has missed nine of 10 3-point attempts.
The third biggest disappointment has been the number of players injured this early on in the game, something that seemed the team was preparing to avoid. Injuries have been so bad for the team, that the starting wing Jarred Vanderbilt after ten games hasn't been able to make his debut in the season. Anthony Davis already missed one game and a half and LeBron James the same. At one point Coach Ham had 40% of his team rotation out due to injuries. At this moment, it seems things are starting to trend in the right direction in that area.
The second biggest disappointment for the fans is the team's poor 3-point shooting, especially after an optimistic preseason, as the Lakers re-signed Reaves, Hachimura, and D'Lo. They added Christian Wood, Vincent, and Prince. Christie shot 41.9% from downtown as a rookie. At worst, the Lakers are projected to shoot as an average shooting club. Through 10 games, though, the Lakers are one of the worst shooting teams ranking 28th in 3-point percentage and 29th in 3-pointers made per game.
While head coach Darvin Ham has the total trust of GM Rob Pelinka and owner Jeanie Buss, the Lakers fanbase is disappointed with what they have seen so far from the coaching staff, despite the last two game wins with the Austin Reaves going to the bench moves. Ham doesn't know how to correct his strategy on games and his lack of good timing for turnovers is also concerning, plus, the team still needs to improve on their defensive game and rebounding.
