Despite significant player absences, the Los Angeles Lakers have experienced a disappointing start to the season. Fans are increasingly dissatisfied with Coach Darvin Ham's management of the team, as they had high hopes after the offseason and additions made by GM Rob Pelinka.
The front office made significant efforts to retain players like Austin Reaves, Rui Hachimura, and D'Angelo Russell, while also adding depth to the roster to bolster continuity. However, after eight games, injuries have taken their toll, and the Lakers have struggled to find their form.
Fans have grown frustrated with Coach Ham's approach, which is perceived as motivational but lacking a clear strategic plan for the season. Many are calling for his removal, suggesting that the front office should make a change while there's still time.
Some fans believe that promoting Phil Handy could be an in-house solution, as he has shown more dedication to enacting change than Coach Ham.
“It’s a reality of the business, injuries. You find out game time AD’s not playing and so that shifts your lineup, it takes guys out of their normal role where they know they’d be coming into the game and so it’s an adjustment. The biggest thing for me is I’m proud of my guys. We’re trying to fight through this rough patch and if it’s going to happen in a season I’d rather it happen now. “We’ll figure it out, but I don’t think that mentality has changed. The biggest thing is we just have to try to compete harder. If things are not going our way, good, bad or indifferent we just gotta continue to take our focus up and get stronger as the game gets longer with our competitiveness, our togetherness and our force on both side of the ball.”Said Ham.
