The Lakers have been really quiet during this offseason. Someone would think that after the disaster that was last season, the front office would try to make some moves to improve the team. However, so far, they have offered Russell Westbrook and two first round picks for Kyrie Irving, signed LeBron James to an extension, and basically that's it. Now, according to NBA analyst Marc Stain, Dennis Schröder might be a free agent option that the team could bring back.
Let's not forget that Dennis Schröder was a Lakers player not so long ago. He played for the Purples and Gold for one year in the 2020-21 season. During his time with the team, he averaged 15.4 points, 5.8 assists and 3.5 rebounds in 61 games. It might not be impressive numbers, but they are more than serviceable. Last season, the point guard played for both the Boston Celtics and the Houston Rockets, but right now, he is a free agent.
The truth about LeBron James new contract extension
LeBron James appearance in CrawsOver Pro-Am was to prove something
Schröder reportedly turned down a four-year extension offer worth approximately $80 million from the Lakers midway through the 2020/21 season, then he had to settle for a one-year, $5.9 million contract in free agency a year ago. According to Stain, the Lakers are waiting to see how things resolve with the Nets, as Kyrie Irving is still their priority. But if Brooklyn brings back both Irving and Durant, then the Lakers can turn their eyes to Schröder.
Denis Schrörder has been a very consistent player throughout his career. Last season with the Celtics and the Rockets, he averaged 13.5 points, 4.6 assists and 3.3 rebounds in 64 games. Just a little below his average, as during his nine years in the NBA he has registered 14.2 points, 4.7 assists and 2.9 rebounds. Now, he is still a free agent. And not so long ago, he posted a photo with LeBron James asking if they 'should run it back'.
There's still no updates on Russell Westbrook. It is fair to say that the relationship with the Lakers is already broken, as the team has repeatedly shown that they no longer want him on the team. Still, the only real offer the team has made is sending him to Brooklyn in exchange for Durant. With training camp just around the corner, the Lakers must make a decision on what to do with Russell Westbrook
