Los Angeles finally made a big move during this offseason. Rob Pelinka traded Talen Horton-Tucker and Stanley Johnson to the Utah Jazz in exchange for Patrick Beverley, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. This is the first big move by the Purples and Gold since they signed LeBron James to an extension.
Wojnarowski also explained via his Twitter account, that the Lakers and the Jazz are expected to finalize the deal on Thursday morning, delivering Beverley to LA after a brief stay with the Jazz. The Lakers didn't have to send any picks in this trade.
Former NBA player believes the Lakers will struggle in the West
The Lakers cannot win a championship with their current roster
Beverley played last season with the Minnesota Timberwolves, as they returned to the playoffs, starting 54 games and averaging 9.2 points, 4.1 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game while shooting 34.3% on 3-pointers. He has played in the NBA for ten seasons, now averaging 8.8 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.5 assists.
Beverley was traded to the Utah Jazz this offseason as part of the five-player, five-pick package for Rudy Gobert in July. Needless to say, he didn't play a single game with the team. Now he is joining his fifth NBA team, returning to where he was originally drafted in 2009. The Los Angeles Lakers.
Patrick Beverley isn't the all-star player the Lakers fans were hoping for. Still, he can be a good defensive player. Let's not forget he was an NBA All-Defensive First Team in 2017. He's not really a player that can lead the team to a championship, but he can be a really good role player.
