After HBO's series ‘Winning Time’ came out, many discussions surrounding the Showtime Lakers came to light. This series also was part of the reason why the Lakers decided t create ‘Legacy: The True Story of the Lakers’. Now one of the players that was heavily featured, Kareem Abdul- Jabbar, has decided to launch his own podcast to talk to former teammates and coaches about the Showtime Lakers.
According to the all-time leading scorer, this podcast was created after watching the Lakers series that premiered the past August 15th. “After watching Legacy: The True Story of the Lakers, my friend and former teammate Norm Nixon and I decided to have a video chat about our Showtime days” expressed Abdul-Jabbar on his own web page. Kareem got to the Lakers from the Milwaukee Bucks after a trade where Los Angeles acquired him and Walt Wesley in exchange for Elmore Smith, Brian Winters, Junior Bridgeman and Dave Meyers.

The six-time NBA champion also shared some of the guests that he'll have on his new podcast “This is the first in a new series of video chats with my former teammates and coaches, including Jerry West, Michael Cooper, Magic Johnson, Byron Scott, Jamaal Wilkes, James Worthy, Kurt Rambis, Bob McAdoo, and AC Green. You will not want to miss what they have to say about their struggles and triumphs as players and afterward.”
Of course, the fact that a former player decided to create a podcast isn't huge news as there are many NBA players, former and current, that have their own space. Some of the most recognizable podcasts are 'The Draymond Green Show', ‘Old Man and the Three with JJ Redick and Tommy Alter’ and ‘The Big Podcast with Shaq’, among others. Now we'll have a more personal look at the 80's Lakers with this new podcast.
Both 'Winning time' and 'Legacy' show parts of the most winning Lakers in history. However, both series might have followed a bias toward a point of view. Now Kareem's podcast might give the fans some new moments that they had never heard before.
