The Lakers wanted him for D'Angelo Russell, now he'll steal LeBron James & impacts

The Lakers have been pursuing an upgrade from D'Angelo Russell in the Point Guard position this offseason. First, Kyrie Irving was linked to the team, but then Irving wanted LeBron to join Dallas, but James wanted to stay in LA.

Then, the Atlanta Hawks superstar Trae Young was on the list of the Lakers players they want to sign this offseason, and now it seems that Young is the one trying to get LeBron to Atlanta, especially after an IG story James himself posted.

Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young had an elated response to Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James saying he'd pull up to Atlanta if the team drafted his son Bronny in the 2024 NBA Draft.

The younger James was mocked by the Hawks at pick No. 17, and while it's incredibly early to be thinking about the 2024 NBA Draft, it's clear the elder James wants a chance to play with his son. LeBron basically posted on his IG story that he and his family will then be in Atlanta if that pick happens. Young, the Hawks' star PG, seems to be excited about the idea and wrote an image of the post on Twitter: "Talk soon."

For Lakers fans, it's a little disappointing, but it can be expected based on how the elder James' contract is structured. The four-time champion is under contract for the 2023-24 season and then has a player option for the 2024-25 campaign. That allows him the ability to opt out of his deal following the 2023-24 season. Since the 2024 NBA Draft is before free agency (like it is every season), the elder James will know which team selects his son before he has to make a decision on where to play in the 2024-25 season.
