While the Lakers were able to have a productive offseason early on as they got most of their signings in the first couple of days after the free agency market started, they are still looking to add another center to fill their 14th and final roster spot to the start of the next season.
While the team has a total of 15 spots available, reports have the team entering the next season using only 14 of them and leaving one empty once the campaign has started, but the 14th they have available is to add another center into the mix.
Christian Wood is Pelinka's top choice, and while an offer has been made, it is for the vet minimum, about 2.7 million per year. The former Mavs big player hasn't rejected the offer but hasn't accepted either.
And according to NBA insider Jovan Buha, who recently appeared on the show Inside the NBA, Wood is interested in signing with Miami Heat as his first option to have a bigger role than in LA. But for that to happen, first the Damian Lillard situation needs to get resolved as the star wants to sign with the Heat.
If Damian Lillard signs with Miami Heat, Wood won't be landing in Miami, making it possible for the center to decide to sign with the Purple and Gold where he doesn't have guaranteed playing time. The problem is, Lillard's situation could get resolved until mere days before the 2023-24 season starts.
