In the late '70s, Dr. Jerry Buss bought the LA Lakers franchise and took it to another level, as he was able to create a dynasty in the NBA that the sports world had never seen before.

In the present day, the Lakers and the Boston Celtics are both tied with 17 championship titles each, but the purple and gold governor and owner Jeanie Buss has it clear, she wants her team to be the solitary franchise with the highest number of championship titles in the NBA over their biggest rival, the Boston Celtics.

“Right now LeBron and Steph - you can’t have them in the finals since they are in the same conference. If you think about it, Celtics/Lakers are both at 17 and if we do play them, whoever wins would get number 18. When my dad bought the team in 1979, that was his goal - make the Lakers hold their place against the Celtics.” Said Jeanie Buss.

So for Jeanie Buss the dream NBA Finals would be the Lakers vs. the Celtics and for the purple and gold to take the edge and become the biggest franchise in the league.

The Lakers rivalry vs. the Celtics was renewed after the HBO's "Winning Time" series

Even when HBO's "Winning Time" series was canceled, a show that was about the rise of the Lakers dynasty with the showtime era Laker, the rivalry between the purple and gold and the Boston Celtics was amped again after the show.
