LeBron James in the summer of 2018 shocked the league after becoming an unrestricted free agent. Speculation was at its highest and teams like the Philadelphia 76ers, Houston Rockets, and the LA Lakers were the favorites to land the three-times NBA champion.

In the end, James decided to sign with one of the most famous NBA franchises in the history of the sport, the Lakers. At this point, the 76ers and Rockets had better chances to compete in the playoffs than the purple and gold, which was a shock for many the decision made by the King.

LeBron James has opened up and the reason is simple, he loves challenges, as he said in an interview with ESPN: "I thought long and hard about the possibilities of lining up alongside Ben [Simmons] and [Joel] Embiid or lining up aside [James] Harden and Chris [Paul],''

"I just felt like at this point in my career, the ultimate for me, just like when I went to Miami -- everyone kind of looks at me joining a superteam, but if people look at it, I think Miami was 35-47 the year before I joined that team," LeBron added. James mixed the numbers, as the Heat were 47-35 the year before he joined Miami, but with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, the trio turned the Heat into title threats overnight.

"I like the challenge of being able to help a team get to places that they haven't been in quite a while," James continued. "And obviously, the Lakers haven't made the playoffs in a few years, but the Lakers organization and historical franchise match up there with all the greats."
