The Los Angeles Lakers had decided to hommage one of his best international players, the Spanish Pau Gasol, by retiring his jersey number 16. Gasol played with purple and gold from 2008 to 2014.
Pau and the LA Lakers won back-to-back championships in 2009 & 2010. So now, after having his jersey number retired from the team, what is next? Well, a list of eligible for the basketball hall of fame in 2023 has been released.
Pau Gasol can now be inducted into the Hall of Fame, and in the recent list, there are other possible candidates too. The eligibles are Dwyane Wade, Dirk Nowitzki, Tony Parker, and Pau Gasol. This is why Gasol deserves to be inducted into the HOF.
Pau was a six-time NBA All-Star and a four-time All-NBA team selection; he won two NBA championships and was the NBA Rookie of the Year in 2002 with the Memphis Grizzlies, being the first non-American player to have won that award. He is regarded as one of the most incredible power forwards of all time and considered one of the greatest European players. To be part of the HOF is to be influential, and Gasol, in many respects, was in the NBA.
On March 7, 2023, Pau Gasol will see his jersey number 16 retired from the Los Angeles Lakers team after a great run with the purple and gold. The Spanish former NBA player will make history as one of the best European players.
