The Los Angeles Lakers in the 80s changed the game in the NBA in more ways that one and were nicknamed the "Showtime" Lakers, with big stars and great players like Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, James Worthy, and much more, all coached by Pat Riley.
The last time the showtime Lakers had a practice in Maui, Hawaii, was in 1989 when Kareem retired, but now they have reunited and practiced one more time to make a memory. And what a memory it is.
Some former players used social media to post pictures and videos of the reunion and the practice. Some players' wives were present. They all looked to be having fun and remembering good old anecdotes.
The Showtime Lakers earned that nickname after Jerry Buss purchased the franchise and made the games more entertaining with different shows in the meantime. Buss also signed a then-young Magic Johnson, that became the face of the franchise back then. They went on to win six championships in 9 years.
When the Showtime Lakers won their first game together, Magic celebrated as if they had just won the championship, so Kareem said to him, we had only more than 50 plus games to win. And they had won their first championship together at the end of that season.
