The Los Angeles Lakers have been struggling not only this season but for around ten years, even when they won a championship title in 2020, which was a different one after the tragic passing of Kobe Bryant and the COVID quarantine.

But one of the most despised players by the Lakers Nation became Russell Westbrook. Now he has turned things around a become a fan favorite with his new coming-off-the-bench role.

More Lakers news:

Westbrook has a tragic story behind his insane passion for basketball. While growing up, Russ was a talented high school baller; he was nothing like his best friend, Khelcey Barrs.

As a 6'6 sophomore, Khelcey averaged 18 points, 11 rebounds, and three blocks per game. Both young players had the dream of playing in the NBA.

Tragic ensues for Khelcey and Westbrook

Both players planned to train and complete chores together and, hopefully, make it to the league. But one day after practice, Khelcey collapsed on the court; he was rushed to the hospital but passed away soon after due to an enlarged heart. Westbrook was devastated, but he accomplished his and Khelceys dream and, to honor him, wore a RIP KB3 wristband and played with Barrs intensity.
