This is how the Los Angeles Lakers have squared on Christmas day games

The NBA schedule is set to release within the next week or so, however here has been some leaks regarding the opening day and Christmas day, both involve the Lakers. Christmas day games held by NBA on Christmas Day have been an annual tradition since the league's second season in 1947. Currently, five games are played on Christmas. As tradition, we'll have a Lakers game this year and they'll be facing the Dallas Mavericks.

The Los Angeles Lakers haven't been the best team in Christmas day history. So far they have a record of 25 wins and 25 losses. However the Lakers are still one of the biggest teams in the NBA, therefore they'll are on their way to play their 23rd Christmas Day game in a row while. The last time they didn't play on December 25th was in the 1997-98 season where only two games were played. In the last ten games they have a 4-6 record.

With the news of having the Lakers once again on Christmas day, we can remember some amazing matches like the first game Kobe Bryant played against Shaquille O'Neal in 2004 were the Miami heat beat the Lakers in overtime. Also during a 2008 Christmas day game Phil Jackson became the fastest coach to win 1,000 games. And just last season, LeBron James  became the all-time Christmas Day scorer with 422 points, surpassing Kobe Bryant, who scored 383 points.

Even though there has been some amazing Lakers moments, the recent history hasn't been the same. Just last season the Lakers fall short in a game, where LeBron should have celebrated, against  the Brooklyn Nets. And as said above their record in the last couple of years hasn't been as joyful a as you could expect for that time of a year. And even if we go back further, in the last 23 years of continue Christmas day games, they have a 8-15 record. So let's hope this year is different.

Can the Lakers win this Christmas Day?

The recent history would say that the Lakers haven't got many chances to win this upcoming season. However they have a winning record against the Dallas Mavericks of 115 wins (including a 2020 Christmas day win vs Dallas) and only 52 losses. The only problem for the Lakers is that in the last two season they have win only two games out of six, against the Mavericks.
