Just when the LA Lakers superstar Anthony Davis seems to have everything in his favor to take the lead of the team and carry the purple and gold for another NBA championship title, the reality check strikes again.
Anthony Davis is one of the best NBA players when healthy, he even is the best defensive player, but his injury record has prevented him from winning any awards and leading the team to another championship title.
Davis has just signed a 3-year 186 million extension and the GM Rob Pelinka has stated that they expect the star to carry the team, but not all are good news as the current Lakers' roster is thinner at the center position than at any point in AD's tenure.
Lakers Centers in addition to Anthony Davis since he arrived in LA: 19-20: McGee, Howard (added Morris on buyout market) 20-21: Gasol, Harrell (added Drummond on buyout market) 21-22: Jordan, Howard (Gabriel added midseason, Jordan waived) 22-23: Jones, Bryant, Gabriel (traded for Bamba midseason, traded away Jones & Bryant) 23-24: Hayes.
Given AD's history and the effort to have him fresh for the postseason, it can be argued the Lakers need to fill BOTH the 14th and 15th roster spots with bigs. By having two reliable centers, Anthony Davis could move to his natural role and bring back his best version, the one he showed is capable of in 2020.
