The two main weaknesses for the Lakers in the season were their 3-point shooting and lack of a reliable Center, as Anthony Davis being a Power Forward, had to take the role. After the trade deadline, Mo Bamba was supposed to be the solution but was out most of the time.
Wenyen Gabriel was a good backup but not to be one of the main options for Ham, and he needed more size to be more relevant. And for the playoffs, Pelinka got Tristan Thompson, a proven vet with experience and a former LeBron James teammate, and he did great with the few minutes he got, but he needs to be younger to bring what the team needs.
With the recent news that the Minnesota Timberwolves and Karl-Anthony Towns possibly be parting ways shortly, the Center becomes one of the main options for the Lakers to sign in the offseason.
According to a report from the Bleacher Report's Eric Pincus, trading Towns make sense for Minnesota, and if his name is in the rumor mill, a deal is expected to get done quickly.
If this is set to happen, then the two Centers that didn't change things for the Lakers to make it to the NBA Finals could be leaving, Mo Bamba and Wenyen Gabriel. Karl-Anthony Edwards could take their place, and Tristan Thompson could remain an experience vet backup.
