The Los Angeles Lakers had a disappointing offseason last year, as the biggest name to be signed was Patrick Beverley. Other pickups included Lonnie Walker, Damian Jones, Juan Toscano-Anderson, and Thomas Bryant.
All those players were traded before the deadline and the chemistry and team completely changed, making it to the WCF, but Patrick Beverley believes that the team could've done better if coach Ham had him and Russell Westbrook in the starting five lineup.
During a recent conversation with former star Gilbert Arena, they joined together at his “Gil’s Arena” podcast and discussed many topics, including how the Los Angeles roster was poorly managed during his time in California. According to the new Philadelphia guard, superstar Russell Westbrook wasn’t used enough by coach Darvin Ham.
“They should’ve started me, Austin [Reaves], [Russell Westbrook], [LeBron James], and [Anthony Davis],” Beverley expressed, also wishing he could’ve gotten more time on the floor. This is kind of funny, as Pat Bev was a starting PG for most of the time he was in LA, but Westbrook did have a coming-off-the-bench role.
Beverley also acknowledged that he has absolutely no problem with coach Ham, whom he always got along with, as he recognizes it was a difficult decision to make. Now Westbrook is back to being a starting point guard for the Clippers and is considered a top asset by his coach Tyronn Lue.
