A recently released clip of the upcoming Netflix documentary about the U.S. 2008 Olympics basketball team nicknamed "The Redeem Team" shows an intense Kobe story with then friend and teammate Pau Gasol.

In the game between the U.S. team and Spain, Kobe sent a message in the first play of the game. LeBron recalls, "Kob said he goin' set the tone to start the game, and he said, I'm running through Pau's f***in' chest."

Kobe did it and took the world by surprise. But how was Pau Gasol's point of view? This is what the Los Angeles Lakers Icon had to say: "He just went right to the middle of my chest to try to get through me, to send a message, not just to me but to his teammates to say, 'Hey, this might be my brother; I play with him, we're close, but I don't care about anything else but winning." Says Gasol.

The black mamba went savage to Pau Gasol, but he knew how Kobe was and had no hard feelings. But this anecdote only proves how far Bryant was willing to go to win the gold medal and how he applied that mindset throughout his career.

Kobe Bryant was also a mental strategist.

In the same clip for the documentary, Pau Gasol tells how a day before the game Kobe Bryant went to visit him and his national teammates, but it was all a mental strategy from Bryant to soften Pau Gasol. Kobe Bryant was brilliant in and outside the basketball court.
